facebook – clearing your wall

Cleaning out your closet? well i had comments since back from 2007, so it was time to clean the wall up from comments from people no longer in my life (friends etc).  But the amount of posts and comments i had was rather big so i had to find a better way of cleaning it up.

The solution that worked for me: Firefox + Greasemonkey + Greasemonkey script

So in other words i used the script that deleted the comments on my wall that were visible.  I kept clicking the “show more” link for more comments and then kept deleting them.  Was done in less than 20 minutes (bad internet connection!).

The link for the script was found here:

Ever wanted to restrict the sites firefox can reach?

The mission: find a solution that can restrict FireFox from accessing pages other than ones we specify on a white list.

The solution: the ProCon Latte FireFox extension

This extension will let you do things like filter pages based on the words that appear on a page (e.g. no pages that include the word “bunkers”), restrict pages you can access based on what is included in a white-list you specify and more!  Best of all it lets you hide it, make it uninstallable and password protected to help you protect it from users wanting to tamper with it! (don’t think in terms of strongly encrypted data files et cetera, this is to keep your kids away!)

I hope you find it useful!

Want to view websites similar to the ones you are viewing now?! Bored at the same time??

This is an interesting plugin for firefox.  It will display sites that are similar to the one you are using, based on what other people with similar interests visited or recommended.  Albeit annoying at times, it can be useful when you are bored out of your mind!!!

Google getting a new browser out!

Some of you might not be surprised by this but Google is getting a new browser out there aimed to increase the usability of web pages for the users. Codenamed Chrome, or Google Chrome, the new browser is said to be designed from scratch to work more efficiently with web 2.0 content, or atleast that is what the point of this browser is.

Remembering that google was one of the pioneers of the new web (old web + a lot of javascript and re branded) one might not help but wonder if google is trying to use this new browser to gain even more control over the user market (“monitoring user trends”), pushing new working frameworks focusing on this new browser and perhaps setting standards aside for the sake of getting things to “look” nice — (new features that only work) — on their own browser. In addition it remains to be seen how Google’s ties with the Mozilla foundation will evolve with this new browser coming out, perhaps aiming to rival open source projects like Firefox in the near future.

I also wonder if google can deliver on efficiency as web browsers these days seem to be suffering from it.  Will google’s “start from scratch” aproach be a solution? Let’s hope it pushes other browser vendors to start improving their own prodcuts

Firefox, a browser becoming more popular every day!

According to the statistics posted here Firefox is becoming more and more popular in Europe with 24.1% of the browser “market”. Slovenia at 44.5% and with Finland (41.3%), Croatia (36.5%), and Germany (36.2%) are leading the way as the countries with the highest percentages. If you are not already using Firefox why not give it a try. Its overall safety along with its extensibility and functionality offered by the available plug-ins out there make it hard to resist!

Simply go to www.mozilla.com/firefox/ and give it a try:)
